A number of leading supermarkets have had to urgently recall products already sold to customers over safety fears.

Tesco, Lidl, Waitrose and Sainsbury's have all issued recall notices.

Problems from the products range from undeclared allergens that could be dangerous for anyone with those particular allergies to possible traces of salmonella.

Items affected in this latest recall include protein powder, ready-made pies, and crisps.

"This means it’s a potential risk to people with a milk allergy. No other Walkers products are affected. "

Customers who have bought the item and are allergic are being urged to return it to their nearest store.

Lidl GB is recalling one date product due to the possible presence of salmonella, which can trigger severe gastrointestinal symptoms.

The recall said: "If you have bought the above-mentioned product we advise you not to eat it. Instead, return it to a Lidl GB store for a full refund, with or without a receipt.

"No other Deluxe products in Lidl GB stores are affected by this recall."
